Bangor Basketball Honoring Bill Pensyl
BANGOR- Former Bangor basketball coach
Bill Pensyl will be honored prior to the start of the Bangor vs.
Nazareth varsity boys basketball game on Saturday, February 3. The
ceremony will be held on the basketball court at Bangor Area High
School and is scheduled to begin at approximately 1:30 PM. During
the ceremony, Coach Pensyl’s championship basketball teams
from 1977, 1986, 1987 and 1988 will be honored as well. A banquet
will be held for Pensyl at Stroudsmoor Resort (Ridgecrest Facility)
after the game at 6 PM.
Tickets to the banquet are now available
for public purchase. Tickets cost $50 per person and include cocktail

Relay For Life Slate Belt Celebrating 10th Anniversary
Relay For Life Slate Belt is celebrating its 10th
anniversary this year. The annual Power of Purple Party will be
held at 7 PM on Monday, February 5 at St. Mary’s Church in
Wind Gap.
Stations will be set up around the room explaining
all aspects of the Relay For Life Slate Belt. Teams will have the
opportunity to sell their fundraisers and provide flyers regarding
the upcoming dinners and dances that will benefit Relay For Life
Slate Belt. Teams and survivors can be registered at the event and
luminaries can be purchased.
Relay For Life Slate Belt has raised over $800,000
and honored over 1200 survivors in the last 9 years. The funds raised
help to fund patient services, education, advocacy and research.
There were 201 relays held in Pennsylvania during 2005 and 2006
and over $19,500,000 was raised. The Relay For Life is the signature
event of the American Cancer Society.

Bangor Sophomore Selected to Perform in
District 10 Band
The Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA)
announced that Bangor Area High School sophomore, Matthew Mezger,
has been selected to perform in the PMEA District 10 Band. Concerts
will be held Friday, February 9 at 8 PM and Saturday, February 10
at 2 PM at Exeter Township High School. Mezger will play bass clarinet.
Pen Argyl High School Coaches Holding Baseball
Clinics
The coaching staff of Pen Argyl Area High School
is holding the Indoor Youth Baseball Clinic during the month of
February for children ages 8 to 14. The clinics and dates are hitting,
Sunday, February 4 and pitching and catching, Sunday, February 11.
Both clinics will be held from 1 to 4 PM at Pen Argyl Area High

The Roseto Neighborhood Watch will meet at 7 PM
on Thursday, February 8 at Columbia Firehouse. Anyone that would
like to donate talkabout radios are requested to bring them to meeting
or contact the Roseto Police Department.
Pen Argyl Police Department News
The Pen Argyl Police Department responded to 297
incidents during the month of December 2006. Of the 297 incidents
filed, 39 were criminal incidents. Twenty-one (21) people were arrested
or cited and one (1) juvenile was handled in the department.
North Bangor Fire Company All-You-Can-Eat
Breakfast
The North Bangor Fire Company will hold their monthly
breakfast on Sunday, February 4 from 7 AM to 12 PM at the North
Bangor Social Hall. The menu consists of eggs, pancakes, French
toast, and chipped beef on toast. There will be ham, bacon, sausage,
scrapple, home fries, and toast available. Beverages, desserts,
and fresh fruit will also be available. There will be pull tabs
available for purchase. The North Bangor Fire Company Auxiliary
holds a drawing for different items each month during the breakfast.
The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 6-12. Children
under age 6 eat free.
Slate Belt Corvette Club Holding Monthly
Meeting
The Slate Belt Corvette Club (SBCC) will hold its
next monthly meeting at 9 AM on Saturday, February 3 at Lee’s
Café. The club meets the first Saturday of each month. Lee’s

The students of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel are holding
a talent show on Thursday, February 1. There will be a morning and
evening show. The morning show begins at 9:30 AM and the evening
show at 7 PM. Both shows will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel
School in Roseto.

Slate Belt Little League will hold its final registration
for the 2007 season on Saturday, February 3 from 10 AM to 12 PM

Pen Argyl Area Alumni Association Sponsoring
Basket Bingo
The Pen Argyl Area Alumni Association is sponsoring
Basket Bingo on Sunday, March 18 at the Pen Argyl Park Community
Center. Doors open at 11:30 AM and Bingo begins at 1 PM. Tickets
cost $22 if purchased before the event or $25 at the door. Only
ticket holders will be allowed in the center. The event will be
catered by Ron Koehler. There will be 20 regular Bingos, 4-5 small
Basket Bingos, 2 special Bingos, 2 raffles and a 50/50 drawing.
Handmade knitted and crocheted afghans will be in 4-5 of the baskets
and Longaberger quilted wall hangings in 2-3 baskets. This fundraiser
enables the Alumni Association to present $3000 in scholarships
each year to the graduating seniors of Pen Argyl Area High School.

Holding Pastie Bake
St. John’s United Church of Christ will be
holding a pastie bake on Wednesday, February 7. Orders can be placed

be available for pick up at the church between 12 and 2 PM on February

Wind Gap Baseball and Softball Registration
Wind Gap Area Athletic Association will hold baseball
and softball sign-ups on Saturday, February 3. Registration will
be from 10 AM to 1 PM in the Wind Gap Middle School gymnasium. Registration

Selling Cookbook
Holy Family Parish Altar & Rosary Society has
published a new cookbook, combining the reprinted recipes from the
much sought after 1965 and 1972 cookbooks. Both cookbooks contained
a wide variety of ethnic recipes that our grandmothers prepared.

"On the Road to Northampton" Explored
at NCC
What set people from diverse life experiences "On
the Road to Northampton?" Panelists Wendi Achey, Vertel Martin,
Javier Avila, and Tyrone Wright will describe how they overcame
obstacles in their lives, and explain the educational and career
choices they have made to achieve success. The free talk will take
place Tuesday, February 6 at 11 AM at Laub Lounge, Northampton Community
College, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem Township.
Wendi Achey, an instructor of business and marketing,
came to NCC from the medical field having been director of marketing
and advertising at Integrated BioSciences and a marketing specialist
at B. Braun. She has authored numerous articles on medical device
manufacturing.
Vertel Martin is an associate professor of criminal
justice at NCC. As a New York City police officer, she was involved
in the post- 9/11 response. She is the niece of the legendary Josephine
Baker and spent time with her and the "Rainbow Children"
(Baker's 13 adopted children) growing up.
Tyrone Wright is head coach of NCC's men's basketball
team and is the student success administrator. He was raised in
Allentown and played and coached for Dieruff High School before
graduating from Kutztown University.
Javier Avila is an associate professor of English
at NCC. A poet and novelist, he is a winner of the Puerto Rico PEN
Award.
Klecknersville Rangers Ladies Auxiliary
All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast
The Klecknersville Rangers Ladies Auxiliary is holding
an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 8 AM to 12 PM on Sunday, February
18 at the Klecknersville Fire Hall. The menu consists of pancakes,
sausage, bacon, ham, eggs, French toast, hash browns, and much more.
The cost is $6 for adults and $3.50 for children ages 5-12. Children

Diabetes Fundraiser
The Big Wheel Skating Center is gearing up for the
Juvenile Diabetes skating fundraiser scheduled for Sunday, February
18 from 4 to 10 PM. Participants must have a minimum of $10 on a
sponsor sheet or pay $12 at the door the day of the event. Prizes
will be awarded to anyone who collects sponsors based on the amount
of money they collect. Sponsor sheets are available at The Big Wheel
Skating Center and must be submitted with the money by Saturday,
February 3 to be eligible for prizes. The event will feature live
bands, DJ’s, door prizes and raffles. Stop by The Big Wheel
